Background

Clara du Val was the partner of Henry Seekamp.

After the Ballarat Times newspaper was closed down by the government in the aftermath of the Eureka Stockade, and its editor Henry Seekamp was arrested on the 4th December 1854 and charged with sedition, Clara Seekamp took over the role of editing the newspaper.[2]
