Background

Twaits was from England, and arrived in Australia in 1849, and arrived in the Ballarat district in September 1851. He was listed as being a Ballarat pioneer who was resident in the Ballarat district before the first Gold licence issue, on 20 September 1851. Twaits first dug for gold at Cockatoo Gully. He was a member of the Old Identities Association. [1]

Post 1854 Experiences

Twaits was residing in Ballarat West in the 1880s.[2]

Twaites was a member of the Ballarat Old Identities Association having arrived in Ballarat before 1854. His medallion, which has the words “Ballarat” and “Eureka” inscribed on it, was donated to the Ballarat Historical Society in 1969.[3]
