Golden Wedding MR AND MRS. C. CANNARD, OF ALLENDALE.
Mr. and Mrs. C. Cannard, of Allandale, Young, celebrated their golden wedding with a dinner and social in the Burrangong Hall on Wednesday evening. A large number of guests were present. Mr. and Mrs. Cannard were natives of Victoria. Mr. Cannard was born at Clunes, in the district between Ballarat and Maryborough. His father, who was one of the earliest pioneers of Victoria, was a participant in the Ballarat Eureka Stockade. Mr. Cannard's mother bore the name of Elizabeth Wesley, and some claim is made that the family are traced back to the Wesley of Methodist fame. Mrs. Cannard whose maiden name was Miriam Griffiths, was the daughter of the earliest pioneers of the Lake Learmonth, about 30 miles north west of Ballarat. They were as bride and bridegroom both 21 years of age. Australia owes Mr. and Mrs. Cannard hearty thanks for their part in the population of Australia, for there have been born to them of their marriage fourteen children thirteen children of whom are living. One met an early decease following war injuries. The thirteen children are married, and the issue of grand-children to Mr. and Mrs. Cannard number fifty-four. There is one great-grand-child. So on the occasion of their golden wedding there are the four generations of the line. ... [3]
