Background

John Donohue enlisted in Cork, Ireland in March 1853[1] (#3223)[2], travelled to Australia on the Camperdown, and was sent to Ballarat in late November 1854 and was attacked by miners at the Eureka diggings. [3]

John Donohue was probably present during the storming of the Eureka Stockade on 03 December 1854.[4]

Post 1854 Experiences

John Donohue was placed in confinement for a misdemeanour on 01 February 1855, and held in the Guard Room for 46 days.[5]

In 1864 John Hill Birch, a 12th Regiment deserter, used the alias of ‘John Donohue’, the name of a shipmate on the Camperdown and fellow private in the 12th Regiment. who had enlisted in Cork in March 1853.[6]
