Background

John Mallagh was a member of the 40th Regiment who arrived at Port Phillip Bay in October 1852. He was garrisoned at Ballarat in 1854.[1]

Post 1854 Experiences

John Mallagh deserted on 11 February 1858 in Melbourne. The desertion was registered on 15 March 1864. He was sentanced on 11 April 1864 and rejoined his regiment in New Zealand.[2]

Family

John Mallagh married 14 year old Sarah Mary Ann McLellan at Ballarat c1854.[3]

2. Joseph B. Mallah (b. 27 August 1857, Ballarat Diggings)

3. John Benjamin (b.c1860)

4. Clare Margaret (b. c1862)
