A Digger Hunt, University of Ballarat Historical Collection (Cat.No. 4170)

Dr Richard Hobson was a witness examined during the report of the Board appointed to enquire into circumstances connected with the riot at Ballarat, and the burning of James Bentley's Eureka Hotel. [3] Hobson testified as to the seriousness of the James Bayne’s leg. James Bayne was a miner who could not work due to the injury to his leg, and had been laid up for 18 weeks with a broken leg. During a Licence hunt on 23 September 1854, while Bayne could not work, Bayne was fined £5 for not having a license. [4]

Hobson was the informant for the death certificate of Thomas Parker. [5]

In 1855 Richard Hobson was listed as a surgeon on Main Road. In that year he signed a petition of householders of Ballaarat requesting the establishment of a Municipality in 1855. [6]
