Goldfields Involvement, 1854
William Adams and his wife lived near the Eureka Stockade so that when the fighting started he tried to get her and their child to safety. He was shot three times and wounded, and afterwards taken to the Camp hospital as a prisoner. He recovered from his wounds to claim compensation of ₤937 to cover damage to his property and his imprisonment. The claim was rejected. He is possibly the William Adams who married Ann Cosgrove in 1847 in the Church of England Church, Belfast, Australia (now Port Fairy). [2]
