Background

Dr William McCrae was a former naval surgeon who had served with Charles Hotham. In 1854 he was the Chief Health Officer in Victoria.[1]

Goldfields Involvement, 1854

On 30 October 1854 Dr William McCrae was a member of the Board of Enquiry into James Scobie’s murder.[2]

Post 1854 Experiences

The Star on 11 September 1856 published a report of the dissolution between William McCrea, Simeon Davey and William Irwin of the Star Hotel, Main Road. The partnership was dissolved on 23 August 1856 and Mr Irwin was to carry on the business of the Star Hotel. [3]
