William Rodier

Background
William Bickman Rodier was living in Ballarat and was recorded on the 1855 Electoral Roll, under the electoral qualification of Miner’s Right. He signed the Benden Sherritt Hassell Compensation Case Petition in 1855, at which time he was listed as a merchant at the Junction Store, Ballarat.[1]
William Rodier died on 30 May 1901 aged 82 at Hawthorn, and was buried at Boroondara Cemetery on 31 May 1901. Eliza Rodier and Maria Cox Rodier are buried in the same grave.[2]

He was listed as a storekeeper at Red Hill Flat when he signed a petition of householders of Ballaarat requesting the establishment of a Municipality in 1855. Rodier was a member of the Ballarat Gas Company’s provisional commit in 1857, and chaired a meeting at the Shakespeare Hotel in Main Rd on 26 July 1858 when it was decided to name Ballarat’s new volunteer force the Ballarat Volunteer Rifle Regiment.
