Background
Brown Hill was named after a gold digger called Brownbill. It was originally called Brownbill's diggings. The northern boundary is located along the Yarrowee Creek that runs from Warrenheip through Brown Hill. The western boundary of Brown Hill is now Stawell Street, extending eastwards across the Western Freeway to land that was in Bungaree Shire before the municipal amalgamations of 1994.
