Robert Hanson
- Mr. Robert Hanson, late of Waratah, an old pioneer, passed over to the great majority on Tuesday afternoon (says our Latrobe correspondent). Deceased, who had attained the advanced age of 81 years, died at the residence of his son Thomas, Gilbert-street. He was a man respected by all, and came of Scotch parentage. He was born in Forfarshire, Scotland. Arriving in Victoria in the early fifties, he went to Ballarat, and was an eye-witness of the famous Eureka Stockade fight. He also helped to cart sleepers for the Geelong and Ballarat railways. He came to Tasmania in 1875, settling at Waratah, and remained there for 38 years. He was a member of the Waratah Road Trust for 17 years, and took an active interest in the progress of that town. The deceased leaves four sons - Thomas (Latrobe), William, George, and Edward (of Waratah). The funeral takes place on Thursday, after noon.[1]
