...The works were under the management of Mr. W. F. Byrne, who wns really the pioneer cordial manufacturer of the district and a very old colonist who arrived in Australia in 1853. He worked for 20 years in the Victorian goldfield's and was present at the now historical Ballarat riots. He first came to Mackay to manage a business for P. M'Cluskey. Henry Lindesay Black was a stock and station commission agent. He also had a livery stable In Victoria-street.[1]
