Obituary

NARRANDERA, Thursday.— An old identity named William Barry, recognised as a miser, was found dead in his house on Tuesday night. A magisterial inquiry was held yesterday, when a verdict of death from natural causes was returned. The deceased was possessed of land and property, also fixed deposits in the A. J.S. Bank. His wife and family are in Melbourne, but he has been separated from them for some years. The medical evidence indicated that death was accelerated by insufficient nourishment. Barry is stated to have taken part in the Eureka Stockade. [2]


William Barry, aged 65, a well-known character at Narrandera, was found dead yesterday in his shanty. He had miserly habits, and lived on rents derived from considerable property. He acted as police orderly during the Eureka stockade riot.[3]
