At the time of the Eureka riot he lived in a tent overlooking the Stockade. A shipmate of Mr Barber’s was the late John McPhee, the well known coach proprietor. Mr Barber subsequently turned his attention to the land, and acquired a farm in Burrumbeet district, and later at Waubra. Being a practical agriculturist, he was very successful.
