John North married Elizabeth Ann Doyle.[1]

According to family history John North was at the Eureka Stockade in 1854.[2] He attende the 50th annivresary of the Eureka Stockade and was presented with a blue 'stockader' ribbon, which is not in the collection of Museum Victoria.Cite error: Closing </ref>

- 'The proudest men in Ballarat yesterday were the gold fields veterans who were associated with the historic fight at the Eureka Stockade, and were entitled to don the blue ribbon provided for the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the event. A substantial majority of them were local men, but others had come hundreds of miles to renew old associations or to shake a hand which, like their own, had turned a windlass or filled a bucket in "the roaring days" of 50 years ago.'[4]
