Background
John Moore was born in Dublin, Ireland, the son of George Moore QC MP and his wife Eliza Armstrong. John Moore was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, gaining an MA. He migrated to Melbourne and worked as a pastoralist with his brother James Moore. He married Elizabeth and they had three children.John and Elizabeth Moore lived at Dandenong Road, Prahran, and died on 30 January 1885 at Melbourne.[1]
Goldfields Involvement, 1854
John Moore was the Assistant Colonial Secretary working at the Colonial Secretary's Office from 20 April 1854 until 1869. On 25 November 1854 he wrote to the Resident Goldfields Commissioner at Ballarat stating that the Coroner's conduct at the inquest into James Scobie's death was unseemly.[2]
